Spring Has Sprung: Ways You can Welcome in the New Season
By Francine Hunt
March can bring out our impatience for the warmer weather as it seems so close yet so far away. The first thing you should do is open those windows and doors and let the fresh air in and shut off the furnace. There are plenty of activities you can participate in so that you can welcome spring!
For a great day and a fun outing why not take the kids to the zoo? There will probably be new babies to see and being outdoors will do the whole family good. The zoo is always an ideal outing as what child can resist roaring lions and pacing panthers?
If you have a front porch, go get your outdoor furniture so that you can begin to sit outside after dinner or during a break from house chores. You can also hook up a hammock in the backyard for that needed nap after so much spring cleaning. A tire swing will be perfect for the kids. While dad snoozes in the hammock the kids can soar to the sky on their tire swing.
For a more lively activity why not gather the kids and take a walk around the neighborhood searching for signs of spring. Look for daffodils, crocuses and other budding plants. Make a game of it to see who can spot the most signs of spring. If you live in an urban area, go out and buy the kids some sidewalk chalk so they can let their creative juices flow. They can play hopscotch with a board they drew, play tic tac toe or even hangman.
When your outdoor furniture is placed on your patio or porch get that novel or magazine you have been meaning to read and sit outside and tackle it. Feel the warm breeze caress your cheeks as you turn each page. If you really want to get closer to nature, take your book and go read it on the lawn.
Bike riding is a great family activity and biking around the neighborhood or a local bike path will allow everyone to see how spring is coming along. Go to your local discount store and buy a bunch of bubbles and join the children in blowing them. You can fly a kite or host a tea party held in your yard.
Bake strawberry shortcake and use real whipped cream or chow down on some fresh raspberries. You can make a fruit smoothie for breakfast and put it in an elegant glass and have it for breakfast. Try your hand at making sun tea. Nothing tastes better on a warm afternoon.
Finally, sit outside and watch the birds and the world go by as you think of more ways to celebrate the much anticipated season of spring!
