Plan A Carnival Party
Do your children love going to the circus? It's very easy to bring the circus to your own backyard with a carnival birthday party! A large part of the fun for children is the excitement and variety of carnival games at most carnivals, even if it is just a small church gathering. What most parents don't know is that it is very easy to create a carnival themed birthday party, even on a limited budget!
When children are asked to describe a carnival, one of the first things they talk about are the fun games and prizes! While it may seem complex up front, it is very easy to create a few tables of carnival games at your child's birthday party. Most of the games that are at carnivals are traditional games that have been around for ages. Some of the most popular of these games include
- Ring Toss
- Bottle Toss
- Duck Pond
- Disk Drop
Just about any type of traditional party game for kids is perfect for a carnival. The trick is finding the perfect prizes for these games. Prizes can be anything from assorted party favors to candy packs. If you want to give a true carnival feel, however, make sure to throw in some stuffed animals that kids have a chance to win too.
Carnival Food & Treats
Right after games, kids are likely to think of the variety of fun foods they can find when visiting a carnival or the circus. When asked about the type of food at a carnival, they are likely to start talking about popcorn, cotton candy, and other sweets. Most of the candy found at carnivals is fairly inexpensive, which is good news for planning within a budget. You may also want to consider having a gumball machine filled with colorful gumballs, if you or a relative have one â almost every carnival has a few machines near the exit, after all!
To cut back on costs, it is also very easy to create your own circus themed cupcakes at home, using circus themed paper baking cups or cupcake picks. This can be much cheaper than getting a decorated cake and kids will love having their own colorful cup cake. If you do not want to make cupcakes at home, don't worry, these can work just as well with store bought cupcakes!
Carnival Party Decorations
Creating the perfect carnival atmosphere is usually the hardest part of creating a carnival birthday party. Itâs more than just buying carnival themed paper plates and circus party paper sets. The trick is finding the right combination of decorations to give that carnival feel to your birthday party. While balloons are obvious, don't forget that you can easily hang paper cutouts from trees and use scene setters on the side of your house to make your yard look like a carnival. One of our other personal favorites, and one many people do not consider, is inflatable animals. It's easy to create your own circus with inflatable animals and inflatable toys. If you want to get your children involved, consider having them make circus themed crafts as decorations.
Of course, no circus is complete without a ring master and clowns! You don't have to buy a whole clown costume, however, to make the adults look the part. Consider having the adults wear clown wigs and makeup to the party, especially if they are responsible for giving prizes for carnival games. You can also have mom and dad stand out by purchasing top hats and other silly hats to make them look more like ringmasters. With the right preparations, you can really have your own backyard carnival!
