Looking at having a special reading party? With school out for the summer many of us are looking for ways to keep kids reading. While reading may be fun, it can difficult showing kids how much fun it is when they have a choice between a book and their favorite video game. One of the best ways to encourage reading is not only making it fun, but encouraging girls to read with their friends. We have found that one of the best ways to do this is by having a weekly or bi-weekly reading tea party. Think of it as a book club meeting for kids! Don't worry, these parties are easy to set up and fun for everyone involved!
Reading Tea Party: Getting Started
In general, little girls love having tea parties and inviting their friends. When you first start this weekly or bi-weekly party, decide where it is going to be hosted and if parents are going to rotate which girl is hosting that week. Once you know, send out invitations to the invited girls with envelopes for an RSVP. While you can send out e-invites, this doesn't give little girls the excitement of getting their own mail. Along with the invitation, giving girls a choice of books that will be discussed at the party. You might also make this more fun by offering prizes, like small stuffed animals , bookmarks, or stationery to the girls, based on how many of the books they had read prior to the party.
Reading Tea Party: Food & Decorations
Of course, what is a tea party without delicious food and tea! Make sure to get mild, herbal tea for all the girls or even some hot chocolate for little girls at your party. Regardless of the drink, they can still enjoy these out of adorable tea cups designed just for little girls. If you want to keep the mess down, however, don't forget that you can purchase tea party themed party paper sets with cups, plates, and even napkins. As well, it is easy to make little tea cakes or cupcakes to serve at the party. These cupcakes can then be decorated with cupcake picks and decorative skirts to make them look perfect for the tea party table.
Reading Tea Party: Dress Up
What is a tea party without fun costumes? This is the time when you can truly have fun playing dress up with your daughter and her friends. This can be as simple as everyone dressing up in their Sunday best or dressing as little princesses for a fantasy-themed book reading. You can even have special costumes and hats set aside for all the girls at your party without spending a great deal of money on these outfits - many companies offer play outfits for girls inexpensively, allowing all your special little guests to feel like princesses as they sit and talk about their favorite books. If you want to add an extra touch, don't forget to add some play jewelry to make dress up even more fun!
