One of the things that are such fun in the summertime is the chance to have a summer party with all of your friends. It's easy to have everyone hanging out in your yard, or in the pool, especially with these brutal temperatures. However, instead of having a boring pool party that very few people will remember, you may want to consider having your own Hawaiian-style luau! This is a great way to combine the summer party spirit with a relaxed party atmosphere!
Luau Yard Decorations
Decorating your yard for a luau is one of the most fun parts of having your own backyard party. With luaus, or Hawaiian parties, becoming even more popular, many people are building their parties around hibiscus flowers, tiki decorations, and palm trees. To give that summer feel, many people love using Hawaiian scene setters, along with inflatable palm trees to give that perfect look.
Quite possibly the largest thing that can make or break a luau is lighting. Finding the right lighting options for your party really depends on your own personal preferences. Stringed outdoor lights are one of the most popular lighting choices, with the bulbs looking like tiki characters, or hibiscus flowers. For a more traditional look, however, you can always go with Hawaiian torches, which can be filled with oil, candles, or more convenient (and kid-safe) bulbs.
Luau Costumes & Kid Friendly Activities
If kids are going to be attending your luau, you definitely want to consider having luau skirts and leis available for all your little guests. Lots of children love looking like hula dancers, and playing various games while parents enjoy sitting back and relaxing. Most outdoor games can easily be incorporated into a luau party, including horseshoes, a bean bag toss, and a ring toss game. For younger children, it's also a great idea to have luau themed toys or craft projects available, to help them feel like they are taking part in the party as well!
As a fun activity before it gets dark, you may want to consider getting a piñata for the children at your luau. Piñatas can be found in just about any theme today, so go for what you think most kids at your party will love. Just hang the piñata in a tree, and fill with fun tropical party favors, toys, or the ever-popular pinata stuffer: candy!
Luau Table Decorations
To give that finishing touch to your luau party, give your party tables that Hawaiian feel. You can easily find a variety of party paper sets ranging from hibiscus flowers to tikis. One of our favorite table decorations is to give your table its own grass skirt, laced with artificial hibiscus flowers. This can easily give that feel that your guests are soaking in the sun on a Hawaiian beach, as they sipping their favorite soda or adult beverage.
Speaking of drinks, one of the most overlooked decorations are reusable cups or glasses. Giving guests their own cups that they can take home after the party reduces waste, provides an interesting souvenir from your party, and leaves you with less mess to clean up afterward. Guests at luaus especially love going home with unique coconut cups or hurricane glasses. With the right decorations, you can easily create the perfect atmosphere for a backyard party that your friends and family will remember for years to come!
